About us

Two industry veterans, a small warehouse, and a fairly simple idea.

In 2009, Tim Weaver and Shane Murphy put twenty years of metal recycling experience behind one proposition: that a scrap buyer could be straightforward to deal with.

The story

From a warehouse to sixteen acres.

Custom Recycling began in a small warehouse. Tim Weaver and Shane Murphy had spent two decades in metal recycling between them and had watched the same problem repeat: businesses generating valuable material, treating it as waste, and dealing with buyers who were hard to reach and harder to trust.

The company they built is now a 16-acre operation with 35,000 square feet under roof, running certified scales, processing equipment and a container fleet across the Carolinas. What has not changed is the proposition: show up, grade it honestly, communicate, pay.

Today the leadership team carries more than 150years of combined experience, and the company remains family owned and operated. Between Custom Recycling, Custom Trucking & Hauling and Custom Demo & Dismantling, the group covers the whole path from a machine on your floor to a mill that wants the metal.

What has not changed

Four things we are actually strict about.

Grade it honestly

Certified scales, alloy analysis on the streams where it matters, and a ticket that matches what was in the container. Everything else in this business depends on that being true.

Answer the phone

The most common thing customers tell us is that someone calls them back. That is a low bar in this industry, and clearing it is most of why accounts stay.

Fit the process, not the route

Containers go where material is generated. It costs us more in placements and swaps, and it is the single biggest thing that changes what a facility recovers.

Stay local

Family owned since 2009, on the same ground in York County. Our name is on the school bands and the ball fields because the people we serve live here too.

Leadership

The people you will actually deal with.

Small enough that you will know your account rep by name, and that they will know your plant.
